Project Support Officer needed for ‘What is it? Identifying Mystery Objects’ study days

Introduction
The Social History Curators Group exists to improve the status and standards of social history and allied disciplines within museum.

Social history curators care for diverse collections full of many types of objects, covering everything from household items to industrial objects, art collections to geological specimens and everything in between.  SHCG have secured funding from Arts Council England to run three free study days focussed on identification, research and looking after a range of collections and materials. 

A number of ‘How to’ films will be recorded at each study day which will feed into wider SHCG projects.

Topics within the study day will cover:
• Identification of typical objects types using marks and inscriptions
• Looking at different objects and materials and how to care for them
• Ways to research companies and history specific to your local and national area.

Deliverables
1. Three study days. One each in Liverpool, Newcastle and Bristol
2. Three ‘How to’ films
3. Comprehensive evaluation of attendees and submit a report to Committee
4. Sufficient marketing to ensure that each study day is well attended

Tasks
Under the guidance of SHCG Committee, the Project Support Officer would be required to carry out the following tasks:

1. Arrange suitable venues in three locations in designated locations
2. Arrange two speakers per venue
3. Market the study days through social media
4. Attend and co-ordinate the event day including the film team.  This will include a £100 travel and subsistence allowance in addition to Project Support Officer fees.
5. Administer the study day budget within given limits
6. Arrange study day evaluation and collate the results using the aims & objectives set out in the ACE application
7. Undertake this work by March 2013

Application
The fee for setting up three study days is £1,500 with additional funds to secure venue, catering and speakers travel.
